Marilyn and her son spend many hours each month helping pets at the Animal Refuge Center (ARC) in her community. Recently, the rains caused massive flooding and the shelter was severely damaged. Marilyn's dedication to the animals and keeping the shelter open was quickly realized as she recruited her son, husband, and other concerned citizens to make a difference.
ARC is a unique refuge center in that every dog is provided a roughly 20x20 fenced in kennel with an air conditioned shed that includes their own bed, linens and toys. In addition, food, water and a kid’s plastic swimming pool is supplied for the animals to frolic around in. The recent heavy rains caused the kennels to be literally under water. The shelter received dump truck’s full of dirt from a kind donor to help with the restoration. So with the help of Marilyn, her family, friends’ and some local college kids they shoveled the mounds of dirt into wheelbarrows and distributing to each kennel. There are now many very happy, healthy and DRY doggies at the shelter due to Marilyn’s efforts!
